Panathinaikos have officially confirmed the signing of Algerian international Ahmed Touba from Istanbul Başakşehir, securing the defender on a long-term contract that will keep him in Athens until the summer of 2028.

The Greek Super League club is understood to have paid a transfer fee of approximately €1 million to complete the deal. The 27-year-old becomes the latest addition to a Panathinaikos squad aiming to strengthen its defensive ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Touba arrives in Greece with a wealth of experience across several European leagues. Before his stint in Turkey, the centre-back featured in the Eredivisie with RKC Waalwijk, where his commanding presence and consistent performances earned him significant attention.

He previously had spells with Belgian side Club Bruges and Italian club Lecce, adding further depth to a career marked by its continental breadth.

Panathinaikos, who remain one of Greece’s most historic and ambitious football clubs, have been proactive in the transfer market, seeking to build a side capable of domestic success and competitive European outings. Touba’s arrival aligns with that vision, as the club targets players with international pedigree and tactical adaptability.

Born in France but representing Algeria at senior international level, Touba has earned caps for the Desert Foxes and is regarded for his composure under pressure, positional awareness, and strength in aerial duels. His ability to play in both central and left-sided defensive roles adds to his value in a squad that is preparing for a demanding season.

The club confirmed the length of the contract—running until mid-2028—and praised the defender’s experience and leadership qualities in a statement accompanying the announcement.

Though Touba has not yet made a formal statement, those close to the negotiations suggest he was drawn by Panathinaikos’ competitive vision and the promise of regular football in one of Europe’s most historic leagues.

For the Athens-based club, the signing of Touba marks a continuation of their strategic recruitment approach. With ambitions to reclaim domestic glory and perform consistently on the European stage, the club has identified defence as a key area for reinforcement. Touba is expected to bring stability and a seasoned presence to the back line.

The Algerian’s journey has taken him from Club Bruges’ academy to various top-flight leagues, and this next chapter in Greece offers both a fresh challenge and a stage to further prove his capabilities.

His prior experiences in Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey have shaped a well-rounded footballer, one who will now aim to anchor Panathinaikos’ defensive efforts in the seasons ahead.

With his signing secured, preparations now begin for his integration into the squad ahead of pre-season training. Panathinaikos, having made a significant investment in Touba’s potential, will be counting on the Algerian international to make an immediate impact.
