Ahmed Touba has confirmed he is attracting serious interest from Belgian giants Anderlecht following an impressive resurgence with KV Mechelen after a challenging spell in Italy.

Having struggled for form and playing time during his stint with Lecce, the 27-year-old Algerian centre-back returned to familiar ground in Belgium this season and has swiftly re-established himself as a key figure in Mechelen’s defensive line.

His performances have not only been consistent but also commanding—qualities that have reignited his reputation in Belgian football and drawn attention from one of the country’s most prominent clubs.

Speaking in a candid interview with RTBF, Touba acknowledged that discussions with Anderlecht had already begun earlier this year.

“I won’t deny it—Anderlecht have shown interest,” he revealed. “We were already in contact this past winter, and we’ll revisit things in a few weeks.”

The Algerian international, who has several caps with the national team, made it clear that the decision he faces this summer will be a defining one in his professional journey. “It’s a big decision for me.

I’m 27 now and need to choose wisely,” Touba said, highlighting the significance of what could be a pivotal move at this stage of his career.

After enduring a difficult adjustment in Serie A, where he rarely featured for Lecce, Touba’s return to the Jupiler Pro League has been marked by consistency, maturity, and leadership.

These qualities appear to have placed him firmly in Anderlecht’s sights as they plan for the next campaign.

While the Brussels club currently sits fourth in the Belgian top flight, they are still battling to secure qualification for European competition.

Nonetheless, their interest in Touba signals an intent to reinforce their squad with experienced and battle-tested players, particularly at the back.

For Touba, a potential switch to Anderlecht would represent a considerable step up in profile and expectations, aligning with his personal ambitions and timing as he eyes more regular involvement with Algeria’s national team.

With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on the horizon, a move to a club competing on the European stage could boost his visibility and readiness for international duty.

Despite Anderlecht’s current uncertain standing in the UEFA Conference League race, their historical stature and infrastructure continue to make them a highly attractive destination for domestic players aiming for the next level.

Touba’s openness about the ongoing talks reflects a sense of readiness to embrace new challenges.

His recovery from a stagnating chapter in Italy has been swift, and the potential move to Anderlecht could serve as the ideal platform to fully relaunch his career.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the final weeks of the season may prove crucial—not only for Mechelen and their ambitions but also for Touba, who could soon be donning the colours of one of Belgium’s most iconic football institutions.
