Haris Belkebla signs contract extension as Angers secure captain until 2028

Angers have secured the future of captain Haris Belkebla after confirming the Algerian midfielder has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Ligue 1 club until 2028, with the agreement including the option of an additional year.

The announcement ends uncertainty surrounding the experienced midfielder’s future, with his previous contract having been due to expire on 30 June.

The extension reflects the club’s confidence in one of its most influential players as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.

Belkebla joined Angers in August 2024 and wasted little time establishing himself as a central figure in the team’s midfield.

Despite being restricted by a number of minor injury setbacks during his debut season, the 32-year-old still featured in 22 matches and became an important part of the side’s structure.

His performances earned him even greater responsibility in his second campaign, when he was appointed club captain. Leading by example, Belkebla continued to provide stability in midfield while maintaining the consistency that made him one of Angers’ most dependable performers.

His contribution throughout the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season was highlighted by an impressive physical record.

Belkebla finished the campaign as the player who covered the greatest distance in the French top flight, recording a remarkable total of 392.46 kilometres, underlining both his work ethic and influence across the season.

The contract renewal comes during a period of transition for Angers following a managerial change ahead of the new campaign.

Alexandre Dujeux has departed to take charge of Lorient, with Stéphane Gilli appointed as his successor.

After ending last season in 13th place with 36 points from 34 league matches, Angers are looking to build on that foundation.

Retaining the services of their captain provides continuity as the club begins a new chapter under Gilli’s leadership.

Belkebla’s new deal also reinforces the club’s commitment to maintaining an experienced core within the squad.
