Algeria’s national football team has arrived in Gaborone as they prepare for a pivotal encounter against Botswana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Fennecs landed in the Botswana capital on Tuesday morning, stepping up their preparations ahead of their Matchday 5 fixture.
The highly anticipated clash is set to take place on Friday, March 21, kicking off at 14:00 GMT.
With qualification hopes hanging in the balance, Algeria will be looking to secure a crucial victory to maintain their strong position in Group G.
Intense race for qualification
Following the fourth round of matches in June 2024, Algeria and Mozambique are level at the top of the group standings with nine points each.
Just behind them, Botswana, Guinea, and Uganda all remain in contention with six points apiece.
Meanwhile, Somalia sits at the bottom of the group, yet to register a point.
With the battle for a place at the 2026 World Cup heating up, Algeria knows that every match is critical.
A win against Botswana would solidify their standing at the summit, while any slip-up could allow their rivals to close the gap.
The Fennecs will need to be at their best to navigate this challenging away fixture.
