Algerian League issues multiple suspensions after Matchday 16
The Algerian Professional Football League has handed down a series of sanctions following the rescheduled matches of Matchday 16, with suspensions and fines affecting several clubs and key players.
MC Alger and USM Alger were among the hardest hit, with Ayoub Abdellaoui of MC Alger and Billel Boukerchaoui of CR Belouizdad provisionally suspended.
Both players are required to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on Monday for a decisive hearing that will determine the outcome of their cases.
MC Alger also saw Mohamed Benkhemassa and Abdelatif Ramdane sanctioned for on-field incidents, while Abderraouf Benguit and Abdennour Belhocini were fined and warned for dissent.
At USM Alger, goalkeeper Oussama Benbot received a financial penalty, and defender Hocine Dehiri was handed a one-match suspension. The club’s assistant coach, Hadj Adlane, has been provisionally suspended pending further review.
JS Kabylie was not spared, receiving a financial fine after their head coach failed to be present on the bench during the match.
These decisions, covering both disciplinary and administrative breaches, reflect the league’s strict approach to enforcing rules and maintaining fair play.
League officials stressed that the sanctions are intended to reinforce accountability and uphold the integrity of Algerian football.
“The Committee treats all breaches seriously, whether they occur on the pitch or from team staff,” a spokesperson said, highlighting the importance of discipline in professional competition.
The impact of these measures will be felt in upcoming fixtures, potentially affecting team selection and match strategies.
Clubs will now have to adjust to the absence of suspended players and the administrative repercussions of fines, as the league seeks to maintain order and competitive fairness.
As the season progresses, the Professional Football League has signalled that it will continue to take a firm stance on disciplinary matters to preserve the integrity of the sport.
Clubs and players alike are expected to comply fully with regulations to avoid further sanctions.
