Guedioura Reacts to World Cup Omission
Algeria international Adlène Guedioura has expressed his disappointment after being left out of the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The Crystal Palace midfielder, a regular figure in the Fennecs’ recent campaigns, was not included in the final 23-man list unveiled earlier this week by head coach Vahid Halilhodžić.
Taking to his Facebook page, the 28-year-old acknowledged the emotional weight of the decision:
“A bit of a rough awakening for someone who is and will always be ready to fight for the green jersey,” Guedioura wrote. “In any case, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your thousands of messages of support that have continued to flow in since yesterday. A heartfelt thought also goes to my family and friends.”
Despite the setback, Guedioura showed solidarity with his national teammates, adding:
“I remain wholeheartedly with my teammates in the national team—make us dream, guys, by getting through this famous second round!”
Algeria will be hoping to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in their World Cup history. Guedioura, who featured at the 2010 tournament, will now support the team from afar as they begin their Brazilian campaign.
