Algerian National Team and Football Federation Donate $100,000 to Children of Gaza
After weeks of speculation and conflicting reports, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has officially confirmed a significant humanitarian gesture: a donation of $100,000 to support children affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In a statement released on its official website, the FAF announced: “The national team players and the FAF have decided to donate 10 million dinars (equivalent to $100,000) to the children of Gaza and express their solidarity with them.”
The news had previously circulated as a rumor and was initially attributed to striker Islam Slimani. However, Slimani and several of his national teammates later denied involvement at the time, casting doubt over the validity of the reports. This latest announcement puts those uncertainties to rest, confirming that both the players and the federation have indeed come together for the cause.
This act of solidarity follows Algeria’s widely praised performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The team made history by reaching the round of 16 for the first time, earning admiration not only for their performances on the pitch but also for their sportsmanship and national unity.
The donation is yet another reflection of the team’s desire to use its influence and platform for positive impact beyond football. With tensions and humanitarian needs escalating in Gaza, the Algerian football community’s gesture is seen as a strong symbol of support and empathy.
Adding to the positive momentum within Algerian football, the FAF also confirmed the appointment of Christian Gourcuff as the new head coach of the national team. Gourcuff, the former long-serving manager of French side Lorient, brings a wealth of experience and tactical know-how as he takes charge of a promising Algerian side aiming to build on its World Cup success.
As the team looks ahead to future international competitions, this moment marks both a humanitarian milestone and a new chapter in the development of Algerian football—one that combines competitive ambition with social responsibility.
