Gourcuff Skips CAF Seminar to Prioritize Algeria’s AFCON Preparations
Algeria national team coach Christian Gourcuff was notably absent from the CAF seminar in Cairo, which focused on analyzing the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The workshop, held at CAF headquarters from Sunday to Wednesday, was designed for African coaches to review and reflect on their continent’s performance at the global tournament.
A source close to Gourcuff cited scheduling constraints as the reason for his absence. The French coach reportedly canceled his trip to Egypt to dedicate more time to preparing for Algeria’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Fennecs are set to face Malawi in a double-header for the 3rd and 4th qualifying rounds, and Gourcuff wants full focus on the upcoming training camp, which kicks off Monday, October 6, at the Sidi-Moussa Technical Center.
While his absence may have raised eyebrows, it underscores Gourcuff’s commitment to keeping Algeria on track in their quest for AFCON qualification.
