Algeria’s national team of locally-based players will meet Gambia in a two-legged qualifier for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirming the match dates on Monday.

The first leg is scheduled for Saturday, 3 May at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, Gambia, with kick-off set for 4 p.m. local time.

The return fixture will be held six days later on Friday, 9 May, at the 19-Mai-1956 Stadium in Annaba, Algeria, kicking off at 7 p.m. local time.

This decisive playoff tie will determine which of the two nations secures a spot in the final tournament of CHAN 2025, a competition exclusively reserved for players active in their domestic leagues.

Algeria, who triumphed as hosts in the previous edition, are seeking a return to the continental stage to defend their reputation.

The FAF, through its official communication, underlined the importance of the encounter for the national side.

It is the final step in the qualification process, making it a must-win scenario for both teams. With the tournament scheduled to take place later this year in East Africa, the stakes could not be higher.

While Gambia will enjoy home advantage in the first leg, Algeria will aim to capitalize on the second leg being played on familiar ground in Annaba, a city known for its passionate support and historic stadium.

Algeria’s success in the last edition has only raised expectations, and the upcoming clash with Gambia is expected to test the squad’s resilience and quality.

As the dates approach, preparations will intensify, with both sides looking to sharpen their squads for what promises to be an intense and competitive tie.

The CHAN tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), serves as a crucial platform for local talent to shine on an international stage.

For Algeria, qualification would not only secure their place in the tournament but also reaffirm their commitment to developing homegrown players.

With both legs now officially scheduled, anticipation is building among fans and stakeholders.

The road to CHAN 2025 continues, and only one of these two determined sides will advance to the final competition in August.
