Alexander Isak’s injury absence leaves Liverpool short of goals
Arne Slot has put Alexander Isak at the heart of Liverpool’s current struggles in front of goal, underscoring just how much the £125 million striker was meant to change this team.
Since arriving from Newcastle, Isak has started only six Premier League games before injury cut his momentum short, leaving Liverpool without the ruthless finisher they had banked on.
Slot did not hide his frustration when reflecting on the situation. “I’ve said this 150 times already in my press conferences. Look at how many chances we have compared to the opposition. Do you think it would make a difference if one of the best scorers in this league over the last three, four, or five years had been available all season?” he asked, stressing how a single goal can flip a game’s mood and outcome.
He pointed to matches like the recent defeat to Galatasaray, where Liverpool dominated early but paid dearly for missed chances. For Slot, Isak’s unavailability has skewed the entire attacking picture.
“We made several big signings, and Alex was the biggest of them. When you’re missing him, it has a massive impact. Look at how many goals we’ve scored this season. It’s absurdly low for a team like this and for these attacking players,” he added, insisting Liverpool’s standards and Isak’s return must lift their scoring levels again.
