Alex Kotey: Retired Ghanaian referee claims he was offered a bribe by George Afriyie

Kurt Okraku George Afriyie

Retired Ghanaian referee Alex Kotey claims he was offered a bribe by former Ghana FA vice president, George Afriyie to officiate a match on behalf of Swedru All Blacks but he declined.

Afriyie previously served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Swedru-based club before gaining prominence in Ghana football.

Before quitting the club in 2008, Afriyie has led All Blacks to secure promotion back to the Ghana Premier League in 2005.

“George Afriyie came to my house and offered me a bribe during his time with All Blacks. I wasn’t aware of his coming, only for me to see Afriyie and one of my closest friends. It was my friend who came to me and conveyed the message to me that George Afriyie wanted to see me.

“I felt uncomfortable so I asked him to leave my house. So it took my friend to convince me to see talk to him. He (Afriyie) wanted to offer me a bribe but I told him I don’t do these things and asked to give the money to his players rather than bribing me to officiate on his behalf” he told Accra-based Top FM.
