Alessandro Del Piero Joins Indian Super League with Delhi Dynamos
At nearly 40 years of age, legendary Italian forward Alessandro Del Piero shows no sign of retiring from football. After concluding his contract with Sydney FC in Australia, the former Juventus and Italy international has taken a new step in his career by signing with Indian club Delhi Dynamos.
Del Piero follows in the footsteps of fellow European stars David Trezeguet and Robert Pirès, who also chose to join the burgeoning Indian Super League (ISL). Alongside his role as a player, Del Piero will serve as an ambassador for the ISL, aiming to promote and raise the profile of football in the rapidly growing Indian market.
In a statement released on his official website, Del Piero expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge: “I am very excited about this new adventure, which fits perfectly with the trajectory I have followed since leaving Juventus three summers ago. I have never wanted to follow in the footsteps I have already left nor sought to relive emotions I have already experienced, which are unique and will remain so forever.”
He added: “On the contrary, I have always sought something different. I see myself as a traveler on the roads of football. For me, the pitch is not the only thing that matters — what surrounds the game is just as important.”
Del Piero’s arrival is expected to bring valuable experience and global attention to the Delhi Dynamos and the ISL as a whole, a league still in its infancy but growing rapidly in stature and popularity.
The move highlights the increasing trend of veteran European players extending their careers by competing in emerging football markets, helping to develop the game worldwide while continuing to compete at a professional level.
