Senegal Coach Alain Giresse to Reveal Final CAN 2015 Squad on Monday
Senegal national team head coach Alain Giresse is set to unveil his final 23-man squad for the upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, January 5. The announcement will be made during a press conference scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the VIP lounge of the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.
This follows the initial release of a 28-man provisional squad, announced a week ago as part of the team’s preparatory phase. Giresse is expected to address not only the final selection process but also the broader preparations for the tournament, which begins on January 17 in Equatorial Guinea.
The coach is also likely to field questions about some of his more debated choices, including the high-profile omission of Besiktas striker Demba Ba—a decision that has sparked significant discussion among fans and pundits.
Later that day, at noon, the full Senegalese squad—most of whom are already in Dakar—will officially regroup. On Tuesday, January 6, the Lions will be ceremonially presented with the national flag by President Macky Sall, a traditional gesture before major international competitions.
The team is scheduled to depart the following day, January 7, for Al Jadida, Morocco, where they will undergo a final training camp lasting around ten days. From there, they will head to Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea, the site of their Group C matches.
Senegal opens its campaign against Ghana on January 19, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter between two continental heavyweights. The group also includes South Africa and Algeria, making it arguably the tournament’s most competitive group.
Expectations are high for the Lions of Teranga, who are seeking to end their long wait for a major continental title.
