Al Nassr supporters have shown their backing for Cristiano Ronaldo as the Portugal captain returns to club action following his dispute with former manager Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp in Denmark last week after accusing Jesus of breaking a promise to him on two occasions. The forward outlined his reasons in a statement published on his official social media accounts on Tuesday.
He has since rejoined Al Nassr and is set to feature in Friday’s Riyadh derby against Al-Diriyah at Al-Awwal Park in the eighth round of the Roshn Saudi League.
Saudi journalist Ali Al-Anzi revealed how Al Nassr supporters planned to demonstrate their support for Ronaldo before kick-off.
Each seat in the stands was given a letter from Ronaldo’s favoured “CR7” slogan. The letters were accompanied by images of the Portuguese forward wearing the shirts of the clubs he has represented, as well as Portugal’s national team.
A video shared by Al-Anzi showed the supporters displaying the tribute at Al-Awwal Park.
The gesture was organised in support of Al Nassr’s captain despite its clear backing for Ronaldo in a dispute involving Jesus, who previously managed the club and led them to the Saudi league title last season.
Jesus is now the head coach of Portugal. Ronaldo’s departure from the national team camp in Denmark came after the player said the manager had failed to honour his word twice.
Al Nassr go into the meeting with Al-Diriyah in fourth place in the Roshn Saudi League table. They are three points behind leaders Al-Qadsiah, although Al Nassr have played one match fewer.
The match marks Ronaldo’s return to the club after the international controversy involving Jesus.
