Al Nassr and Ghislain Konan agree to terminate contract by mutual consent
Saudi Arabian football club Al Nassr has officially parted ways with Ivorian left-back Ghislain Konan following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. Konan, who had one year remaining on his deal, will receive $2.5 million in compensation as part of the settlement.
The 28-year-old defender initially joined Al Nassr in July 2022 on a free transfer from French club Stade Reims.
During his time with the Saudi giants, Konan made 37 appearances and contributed five assists.
Despite showing moments of promise on the pitch, he was loaned out last season to another Saudi side, Al-Fayha, where he added a further 31 appearances to his record.
Although Konan was expected to see out his contract until July 2025, both parties agreed that a fresh start was in their best interests.
His departure marks the end of a brief yet eventful stint in the Saudi Pro League.
In addition to Konan’s exit, Al Nassr is set to offload six Saudi players from their squad as the club seeks to comply with the Saudi Football Federation’s regulations, which limit the number of players on the roster to 25.
Among those advised to find new opportunities are Hamad Al Mansour, Mansour Al Shammari, Mohannad Barrah, Sultan Al Anzi, Waleed Saber, and Fahad Al Taleb.
Al Nassr’s decision to streamline the squad comes amid a period of transformation for the club, which has been adjusting its roster to meet federation requirements while continuing to compete in the Saudi Pro League.
Currently sitting in fifth place in the league standings with four points, Al Nassr has had a mixed start to the season.
The club secured a victory over Al-Fayha and played to a draw against Al Raed.
As the league progresses, Al Nassr remains focused on improving its position and competing for silverware under a recalibrated squad.
The club’s leadership has been actively restructuring its team over the summer to meet domestic and international demands, particularly with growing attention on the Saudi Pro League’s development.
The departures of players like Konan reflect Al Nassr’s ambition to build a squad that is both competitive and compliant with the league’s evolving regulations.
