Al Masry earned an important 2–0 home win over Smouha at the New Suez Stadium in the fifth round of Group C in the Egypt Capital Cup.
Ahmed El Qarmouti opened the scoring in the 37th minute, before Mohamed El Shami sealed the victory with a late goal deep into stoppage time at 90+4.
With this result, Masry, led by Tunisian coach Nabil Kouki, moved to the top of the group with 10 points and is now very close to officially booking a place in the quarterfinals. Smouha, coached by Ahmed Abdelaziz, remained on 5 points in fourth place, missing the chance to climb the standings.
In Group A, El Mokawloon and Ghazl El Mahalla shared the points in a 1–1 draw. Ahmed Shousha put Mahalla ahead in the 60th minute, but Mohamed Abdel Nasser equalized for Mokawloon in the 73rd minute.
The draw lifted Mokawloon, under coach Sami Komsan, to 5 points in fourth place, one point ahead of Ghazl El Mahalla, who sit fifth under coach Alaa Abdel Aal.
