Al-Karkh Club of Iraq has issued a statement expressing solidarity with Saleh Gomaa, who has been suspended for six months and fined a significant amount following an incident during a match against Najaf in the Iraqi League.

In their statement, the club stated, “The management of Al-Karkh Club, along with the football community and followers of local competitions, were surprised on Tuesday by the decision of the Discipline Committee of the Football Association, which penalized our professional Egyptian player Saleh Gomaa with a six-month suspension and a fine of 25 million Iraqi dinars, a penalty that the committee has not previously applied for any of the assaults in the league.”

Continuing, they emphasized, “Our club’s management is not against penalizing wrongdoers and rejects any form of misconduct. However, it demands equality among clubs in the application of disciplinary regulations.”

Furthermore, they stated, “Despite our surprise and rejection of the severity of the punishment, we have taken legal steps to reclaim our rights and seek justice for the player through an appeal.

We hope that Captain Adnan Darjal, the head of the Football Association, intervenes to uphold justice and alleviate tensions between clubs and the association, ensuring the continuity of competition and reaching a safe haven. Success is from God.”

The Al-Karkh team is scheduled to play against Erbil today, Wednesday, as part of the 27th round of the Iraqi League.
