Al Ittihad determined to keep Algeria midfielder Houssem Aouar amid European interest
Al Ittihad are expected to reject approaches from European clubs for Houssem Aouar, despite growing interest in the Algeria international following an impressive individual campaign in Saudi Arabia.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been one of the standout performers for the club, even as Al Ittihad endured a difficult season collectively. His consistent displays in midfield have attracted attention from several European sides monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports from Saudi Arabia indicate that Aouar’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with interest from Europe continuing a trend that had already emerged during the previous transfer window.
Despite this external attention, Al Ittihad are not currently considering a sale. Club officials are said to regard Aouar as a key figure in their sporting plans, even as wider changes are expected within the organisation, including adjustments to the coaching structure.
The midfielder remains under contract with the Saudi Pro League side until 2028, giving the club strong control over his immediate future and reinforcing their intention to retain him beyond the current transfer period.
As things stand, no negotiations for a summer departure are expected to advance, with the club’s stance remaining firm on keeping the player in Jeddah.
For Aouar himself, the focus remains firmly on international duty. The former Lyon midfielder is currently training with the Algeria national team as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His involvement with the Fennecs remains a priority, and his recent club form is expected to play an important role in his preparations for the tournament.
While speculation over a possible return to European football continues to circulate, all indications point to the midfielder remaining in Saudi Arabia for the foreseeable future.
For now, Al Ittihad’s position is clear: despite external interest and ongoing transfer talk, Houssem Aouar remains central to their plans going forward.
