Three of the Jowy Elite League’s leading clubs suffered damaging results in the third round, while defending champions Al-Hazem revived their season by recording their first victory.
Al-Nassr were beaten 2-1 by Al-Fateh in the biggest early surprise of the round, with Abdulaziz Al-Fawaz scoring both goals to secure a valuable win for his side against one of the competition’s leading teams.
Al-Ahli also dropped points, drawing 2-2 with Al-Jabalain as several of the league’s traditionally prominent clubs struggled to produce positive results.
The round’s biggest sides were dealt another blow when Al-Hilal lost 2-1 to Al-Taawoun. The result gave Al-Hilal their first defeat of the third round after they were unable to take anything from their meeting with Al-Taawoun.
Al-Hazem, meanwhile, rediscovered their form with a 3-1 victory over Al-Fayha. The result was the champions’ first win of the campaign and marked an important response after a difficult opening to the season.
Al-Hazem missed the previous round because their match against Al-Watn had been postponed. They had begun their title defence with a 2-1 defeat by Al-Jabalain before returning strongly in the third round.
The week also produced plenty of goals in matches involving Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah. Al-Qadsiah beat Al-Ettifaq 4-2, while Al-Ittihad recorded a 4-1 victory against Al-Wehda. The two clubs were the highest scorers in the round.
Ammar Al-Ghamdi continued his strong start to the season for Al-Ittihad by scoring for the second consecutive match. His latest goal further underlined his early importance to the team’s attack.
Al-Khulood were the only side in the round to keep a clean sheet, winning 3-0 against Al-Orubah. Abdullah Al-Ajyan also found the net for the first time this season, adding another positive moment to a convincing victory.
The round featured two separate two-goal performances. Abdulaziz Al-Fawaz scored both of Al-Fateh’s goals in their win over Al-Nassr, while Amadou Diang struck twice for Al-Hazem in their 3-1 success against Al-Fayha.
Elsewhere, Al-Faisaly drew 1-1 with Al-Najma, while Al-Tadamon defeated Al-Khaleej 2-1. The meeting between Damac and Al-Riyadh also finished level at 1-1.
The collection of results ensured that surprise outcomes dominated the third round of the Jowy Elite League, with several established contenders losing ground and Al-Hazem finally getting their title defence under way with a victory.
