The completion of the group stage matches in the African Champions League has brought forth significant revelations, including Al Ahly’s impressive performance and a historic achievement for Tanzanian football.

Al Ahly, the renowned Egyptian club and reigning champions, continued their journey in the competition with an unbeaten record, alongside Petro Atletico from Angola.

Both teams navigated through six matches, securing three wins and three draws, accumulating a total of 12 points each. Al Ahly demonstrated defensive resilience, conceding only one goal while scoring six.

Meanwhile, Petro Atletico managed five goals without conceding any.

Tanzanian football celebrated a remarkable milestone as both Simba and Young Africans secured berths in the quarterfinals of the African Champions League.

This achievement marked a significant advancement for Tanzanian football on the continental stage.

Simba advanced by overcoming Morocco’s Wydad, while Young Africans triumphed against Algeria’s MC Alger.

In terms of scoring prowess, Simba and Young Africans emerged as the most prolific among the qualified teams for the quarterfinals, with both clubs netting nine goals each.

Simba displayed defensive solidity, conceding only two goals throughout the group stage, while Young Africans conceded six.

Petro Atletico from Angola boasted the strongest defense among the quarterfinalists, having not conceded a single goal in the six group stage matches, showcasing their defensive prowess and organizational discipline.

Sundowns from South Africa emerged as the team with the highest points tally in the group stage, accumulating 13 points from four wins and a draw.

However, they faced a single defeat against Mazembe.

The qualification of Simba and Young Africans was determined by their performances in direct encounters with Wydad and MC Alger, respectively.

Simba secured their spot despite being level on points with Wydad, while Young Africans overcame MC Alger despite a goal difference.
