Al Ahly remains resolute in its demand for non-Egyptian referees ahead of tonight’s much-anticipated showdown against Zamalek at Cairo Stadium.
The club’s board has welcomed the decision to appoint an Arab officiating team for the Egyptian League summit match.
Earlier today, Tuesday, Al Ahly reaffirmed its stance in an official statement, insisting on postponing the match if its request for foreign referees was not granted. The club even threatened to withdraw from the league if its demand went unheeded.
Tensions escalated after the Egyptian Football Association named Mahmoud Bassiouni as the match referee on Monday evening, contradicting Al Ahly’s request.
According to Kooora, a source within Al Ahly revealed that the club is willing to proceed with the game as scheduled, provided the referees come from an Arab nation.
“The most important thing is to ensure Egyptian referees are not assigned to the summit. If officials from Libya, Saudi Arabia, or any Arab country are appointed, there will be no objections,” the source stated.
With the referee debate nearing resolution, fans eagerly await an intense battle between Egypt’s fiercest rivals.
