Al Ahly’s leadership has handed over the Egyptian Olympic Committee’s ruling on the contentious league match against Zamalek, originally set for March 11, to the club’s legal team for a thorough review and detailed report.
The decision comes as the club navigates the fallout from its withdrawal from the high-stakes clash.
An Al Ahly insider shared with Kooora on Thursday that club president Mahmoud El Khatib, currently in Saudi Arabia for Umrah, was briefed on the Olympic Committee’s verdict. He promptly directed that the matter be passed to the legal affairs department for scrutiny.
The insider noted that the legal team is expected to finalize its analysis and present findings to El Khatib when he returns to Cairo on Saturday.
“Al-Ahly’s board of directors will hold a meeting after that to determine its final decision: either to promote the team or continue participating in the league.” the insider said.
The Olympic Committee’s ruling upheld Al Ahly as a loser, declaring the match a 3-0 loss with a further three-point deduction from its Premier League total, citing the club’s demand for foreign referees as the reason for it.
