Al Ahly has confirmed plans to play a friendly match against Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel as part of the Tunisian club’s 100th anniversary celebrations.
The date is yet to be finalised but will take place after Al Ahly’s involvement in the Club World Cup in the United States next month.
A source close to the Cairo giants told Kooora that club president Mahmoud Al Khatib received a personal invitation from Etoile’s president, Zoubir Bey, during a phone conversation held two days ago. The request was warmly received.
“Al-Khatib emphasised to the Tunisian star that he is honoured by the invitation, especially since Al Ahly has good relations with all Tunisian clubs regardless of the intense competition in continental tournaments.
“Al-Khatib told Zubair Beye that he agreed, but that the date should be after Al Ahly’s participation in the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States of America next month.”
This symbolic match highlights a long-standing football friendship between two of North Africa’s most iconic clubs.
