Al Ahly’s first team continues its rigorous preparations for the upcoming match against CR Belouizdad from Algeria in the postponed match of the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
While several of Al Ahly’s stars are set to miss the match due to injuries, including Mohamed El Shenawy, Khaled Abdelfattah, Wessam Abou Ali, and Ahmed Abdel Kader, coach Marcel Koller fears that the team’s striker, Percy Tau, may be affected by fatigue following his participation with the South African national team, which recently qualified for the third-place playoff in the Africa Cup of Nations.
It is expected that Tau will arrive in Cairo shortly after the conclusion of South Africa’s match against Congo to determine the third and fourth-place positions.
This timing allows him to join Al Ahly’s delegation, which will depart for Algeria on Wednesday.
According to a reliable source within Al Ahly, Koller has started preparing a suitable alternative for Percy Tau in anticipation of his potential fatigue due to his extensive involvement in matches with South Africa and his limited rest.
The source explained that while Koller prefers to rely on Tau as a key player, he does not want to be surprised by any negative impact on his performance due to fatigue.
Al Ahly currently sits at the top of the group with 5 points, while CR Belouizdad from Algeria occupies the third position with 4 points.
The Algerian team relies on the recent signings made during the last winter transfer window to assist them in their journey through the Champions League.
