Al Ahly SC have officially arrived in Miami, Florida, as they gear up for their much-anticipated campaign in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™. The Egyptian powerhouse is among four African representatives set to compete in the newly expanded tournament taking place across various U.S. cities.
Placed in a thrilling Group A, Al Ahly are slated to take on South American champions SE Palmeiras, European contenders FC Porto, and tournament hosts Inter Miami CF – captained by the legendary Lionel Messi.
Speaking upon arrival, head coach José Riveiro shared his pride and expectations for the campaign.
“We’re so happy to be here representing our club, our football, our fans,” Riveiro said.
“We’re going to play against very good sides in a very short tournament, and we’re coming with enough time to adapt and prepare well.”
The club’s first test will be a blockbuster clash against Inter Miami on June 14 at the Hard Rock Stadium – a fixture already generating immense buzz.
“It’s a team full of big names,” Riveiro noted. “What can I say? People who have won everything in football… an interesting team and an interesting side.”
Team captain and goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy also reflected on the honor of participating in the prestigious competition.
“Certainly, we take immense pride in being here in Miami. We’ve come with the determination to achieve something extraordinary for our nation.”
When asked about facing Messi, El Shenawy emphasized the magnitude of the occasion.
“Facing such an icon isn’t just a match; it’s a moment etched in the sport’s narrative. We are truly honoured to compete… our sole focus remains fixed on the objective that brought us here – to make our mark on this global stage.”
As anticipation builds and the world tunes in, Al Ahly stand ready to seize their moment.
