Al Ahly SC and Jess Thorup MUTUALLY part ways after failed season targets

Al Ahly SC have reached a mutual agreement with head coach Jess Thorup to part ways, bringing an end to the Danish tactician’s brief spell at the Egyptian giants following a season that fell short of expectations.

The decision was confirmed after a decisive meeting held on Wednesday, as first reported by AfricaSoccer.com, where club officials reviewed Thorup’s future in the wake of disappointing results in key competitions.

Thorup’s position came under serious scrutiny after he failed to guide Al Ahly into CAF Champions League qualification and also missed out on the Egyptian Premier League title—two objectives considered non-negotiable at the Cairo-based powerhouse.

Despite the early termination, the club and the coach have agreed on a financial settlement. Thorup is set to receive his full salary for June, along with an additional three-month compensation package as part of the exit agreement. His agency will also be paid 10 percent of the total settlement value.

Attention now turns to the search for a new manager, with high-profile names already circulating in the media.

Dutch football legend Mark van Bommel is among those reportedly under consideration, while Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has also been linked with the vacant role.

Al Ahly, Africa’s most decorated club, are expected to move quickly to appoint a successor as they look to reset and restore dominance both domestically and on the continental stage.
