African giants Al Ahly are set to kick off their Club World Cup journey against MLS side Inter Miami in a much-anticipated clash that blends pedigree with ambition.
The match, scheduled for early Sunday, marks Inter Miami’s debut in the tournament’s new format, and standing in their way is one of Africa’s most decorated clubs. Al Ahly, known for their winning mentality and continental dominance, will look to make their experience count against a team featuring global icons but new to this stage.
Luis Suarez, who leads the Inter Miami frontline, acknowledged the challenge ahead but insisted his team will give their all.
Suarez noted the financial gap between clubs, but believes heart and effort can still shift the odds. The pitch, he stressed, is where true stories are written.
“The expectations are high given the size of the tournament and the value of the participating clubs, but for us, it’s about playing quietly and enjoying this great opportunity that we got,” he said.
“At the end, every game is played between 11 players against 11, and that’s what makes the difference on the pitch. Even if a team is more likely, the truth remains on the ground. We will fight to the end.”
