Al Ahly have taken a bold step to defend their league title hopes by preparing a fresh memorandum to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), aiming to overturn sanctions that followed their no-show against Zamalek.
Though the highly anticipated match on 11 March at Cairo Stadium was set to be a highlight of the coronation group, Al Ahly did not turn up, protesting the absence of foreign referees. The Competitions Committee declared a 3-0 loss for Al Ahly and deducted three points, but this point deduction was later scrapped by the League Council.
Still, the Appeals Committee upheld the 3-0 forfeit, leading to formal complaints by Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids. Zamalek and Pyramids escalated their case to CAS, demanding an urgent decision.
Pyramids also requested a suspension of the title declaration until a ruling is made.
Al Ahly argue they didn’t withdraw from the match and are urging a replay. Currently, they sit two points ahead of Pyramids with two matches left.
They face Pharco next, while Pyramids meet Ceramica Cleopatra.
