Al Ahly President Mahmoud Khatib meets Abdel Hafeez in talks over future role

Mahmoud El Khatib, president of Al Ahly, has opened the door for a possible return of Sayed Abdel Hafeez, bringing fresh emotion to a relationship rooted in loyalty and long service.

Abdel Hafeez, who left his position as football director in 2023, visited the club headquarters for the first time since his exit.

A source revealed to Kooora that Abdel Hafeez met with Khatib in a private session that was set by prior arrangement. The source confirmed that Khatib intends to present him with two paths. He could either return to the club as sports director or join Khatib’s election list as a board member should the president choose to run again in about two months.

“Things are not yet clear and there is great ambiguity in the situation,” the source added.

Al Ahly had parted ways with Abdel Hafeez in 2023, appointing Khaled Bebo as his successor. Now, with Khatib personally reaching out, the chance of Abdel Hafeez’s comeback has grown, stirring anticipation among fans who remember his passion for the Red Castle.
