Al Ahly is on the verge of pulling out of the Egyptian League after refusing to take the field against Zamalek in their scheduled championship-stage clash.
The club’s absence from Cairo Stadium yesterday has fueled speculation about their future in the competition.
The Red Devils had demanded that the game be officiated by foreign referees and called for a postponement. In a statement released earlier today, the club insisted that without neutral officiating, they would not participate, even threatening to withdraw from the league entirely.
A source told Kooora in an exclusive statement, “Al Ahly had decided that they would not play the rest of the league matches unless the summit would be postponed until they are playing with foreign referees.”
He continued, “Al Ahly has one step before announcing the decision to withdraw from the league, and that is to the International Football Association, which is the official announcement to the Egyptian Clubs Association to consider the red team defeated in the match.”
The club is now waiting for the Egyptian Clubs Association’s final decision, as they had previously promised to appoint foreign referees for the fixture.
