Al Ahly offer USD 2.2 million to sign midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Ferencvaros
Al Ahly SC have reportedly intensified its efforts to sign Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Hungarian club Ferencvaros TC.
According to a report by Tunisian radio station Diwan FM, Al Ahly have raised their offer to USD 2.2 million in a bid to secure the services of the talented 24-year-old player.
The offer also includes additional financial incentives for Ferencvaros if Al Ahly wins the African Champions League and achieves a significant position in the Club World Cup.
However, the negotiations are ongoing, with Ferencvaros holding out for a higher fee.
The Hungarian club is reportedly seeking USD 3 million for the final sale, along with a 20-25% future sale percentage.
This indicates the high value placed on Ben Romdhane, who joined Ferencvaros last season after his contract with Tunisian giants Esperance Sportive Tunis ended.
The deal has not yet been finalized as Ferencvaros had previously requested that negotiations be postponed until after their Champions League playoff match against Danish side Midtjylland.
With Ferencvaros now out of the competition, discussions are expected to resume in the coming days.
Al Ahly is eager to bolster its midfield following the departure of Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng to Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood.
So far, the club have secured two new players: Youssef Ayman, a Qatari defender of Egyptian origin from Al Duhail SC, and Moroccan left-back Yahya Attiat Allah from Russian club Sochi.
The potential addition of Ben Romdhane would further strengthen their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
