Al Ahly offer Imam Ashour top-tier contract extension

Al Ahly have offered Imam Ashour a new contract worth £35m Egyptian per season, placing the Egypt midfielder in the club’s highest salary category.

Ashour’s current deal with Al Ahly runs until the summer of 2028, but the Egyptian champions have already made an approach to extend his terms.

The proposed salary is understood to be the same as the offers made to teammates Mostafa Shobeir and Mohamed Hany. If he accepts, Ashour will join the premium group of earners within the Al Ahly squad.

The 28-year-old joined Al Ahly in the summer of 2023 from Danish club Midtjylland, having previously played for Ghazl El Mahalla and Zamalek.

He has made 105 appearances for Al Ahly in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 25 assists.

Ashour has helped the club win the Egyptian Premier League twice, the Egyptian Cup, the Egyptian Super Cup twice, three continental cups, the CAF Champions League and a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup.

His performances have also attracted interest from abroad. Al Ahly previously rejected an offer from Turkish side Konyaspor for the midfielder because the financial package was considered insufficient.

Saudi reports have also linked Ashour with Saudi club Al-Ittihad, while Scottish side Celtic have been reported to be interested in signing him.

Ashour has become an important part of Al Ahly’s midfield since arriving from Midtjylland, and his scoring record has added to his value to the club. His 32 goals for Al Ahly have come during a period in which the team has continued to compete for domestic and continental honours.

He also scored twice for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. His first goal came against Belgium, when he found the net with a powerful long-range strike, before he headed home against Australia.

Those two goals were the first of Ashour’s international career. He has played 34 matches for the Egypt national team.

The proposed extension would therefore secure the midfielder’s future at Al Ahly beyond his existing contract, while also recognising his position among the club’s highest-paid players. The offer comes as interest from Konyaspor, Al-Ittihad and Celtic continues to be reported, although Al Ahly have already demonstrated their determination to retain him by turning down the Turkish club’s bid.
