Al Ahly new coach Hussein Ammouta vows to deliver titles
Newly appointed Al Ahly coach Hussein Ammouta has promised to win titles after joining the Egyptian giants ahead of next season.
Ammouta takes charge of Al Ahly with the responsibility of returning the club to the top after a difficult previous campaign, with the Egyptian giants aiming for success in both domestic and continental competitions.
The former Wydad Casablanca and Jordan coach expressed his pride at taking charge of what he described as the biggest club in Africa and acknowledged the huge expectations surrounding the position.
“I have known for a long time that Al-Ahly is the best club in Africa, and its fans accept nothing less than victory. This is the first time I have attended a presentation of this level of media presence, and this is befitting the reputation of Al-Ahly, for which I have become the technical director today,” Ammouta said after his unveiling.
The Moroccan coach thanked the Al Ahly management for placing their trust in him, particularly club president Mahmoud El-Khatib and Yassin Mansour, who played key roles in his appointment.
“All thanks to the Al-Ahly management, especially Mr. Mahmoud El-Khatib and Mr. Yassin Mansour, who both agreed on choosing me and giving me the opportunity to be part of the Al-Ahly system,” he added.
Ammouta revealed that negotiations with the club began around six weeks ago before an agreement was reached following several discussions about the future direction of the team.
The 55-year-old coach also outlined his philosophy regarding recruitment, stating that new signings will be based on ability and not nationality.
“The selection will be based solely on competence, without regard to the player’s nationality. Any deal must represent a real addition to the team,” he explained.
On the development of young players, Ammouta stressed the importance of gradually integrating talents from Al Ahly’s youth system into the first team.
“Al-Ahly always competes for all championships, so young talents will be promoted gradually until they gain the required experience. I believe in the capabilities of the youth sector and its role in strengthening the ranks of the first team,” he said.
Ammouta also highlighted the importance of teamwork, discipline and handling pressure as key factors for success at a club of Al Ahly’s stature.
“I don’t talk much, and I don’t like to appear in the media much. Of course, I will give the media its due, but I like to speak through the field, victories, and titles,” he concluded.
