Al-Ahly is preparing to send Moroccan winger Reda Selim out on loan due to the club’s surplus of foreign players.
This move comes in light of recent Egyptian Football Association regulations, which permit each club to register only five foreign players for the upcoming season, in addition to three youth players.
Currently, Al-Ahly’s foreign roster includes Slovenian forward Gardisar, Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng, Moroccan duo Achraf Bencharki and Achraf Dari, and Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane.
The club has also decided not to activate the purchase option for Moroccan left-back Yahya Attiat Allah, who joined on loan from Russian side Sochi earlier this season. He is expected to depart following the FIFA Club World Cup.
“Al-Ahly is looking to loan out Reda Selim, but his high salary — $650,000 annually — is proving to be a stumbling block, as most domestic clubs are unwilling to take on that financial burden,” a source told Kooora.
Ceramica Cleopatra has shown interest in acquiring Selim on a free loan, proposing that Al-Ahly cover more than half of his wages.
The club is also trying to persuade Selim to accept a pay cut, particularly as he is returning from injury and needs consistent playing time to regain form.
Despite the circumstances, Al-Ahly remains confident in Selim’s abilities and views a loan move as a valuable opportunity for him to get regular minutes and rebuild momentum.
Meanwhile, the team is currently in the United States preparing for their FIFA Club World Cup opener against Inter Miami, scheduled for Saturday, June 14.
