Al Ahly’s board of directors, led by Mahmoud Al-Khatib, has convened an emergency meeting at the club’s headquarters to discuss the team’s stance on continuing the league season.
The meeting comes in response to the fallout from their absence in the highly anticipated summit clash against Zamalek.
The Cairo giants boycotted the fixture in protest against the Egyptian Federation’s decision to assign local referees instead of honoring their request for a foreign officiating crew.
Match official Mahmoud Bassiouni waited the standard 20-minute period at Cairo Stadium with Zamalek present before officially calling off the game, as Al Ahly stood firm in their decision not to participate.
A source informed Kooora, “The Al Ahly Council met on Friday afternoon to prepare its decision towards what the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association will make tomorrow, Saturday, to calculate the result of the summit match.”
The Club Association is expected to announce its ruling on the match outcome in the coming hours, a decision that could have major implications for the league’s completion.
