Tension is growing between Egyptian giants Al Ahly and the Ministry of Sports as conflict brews over proposed changes to the country’s sports law.
Al Ahly finds itself under increasing scrutiny after formally requesting a copy of the draft amendments a move that has now drawn heavy government response.
On Thursday, nearly 20 inspection committees were dispatched by the ministry to examine Al Ahly’s financial records. A club source told Kooora that the club is surprised at the scale of these visits, interpreting them as retaliation for the club’s demand to review the legislative changes.
Al Ahly is reportedly considering a new step through the Council of Ministers as it weighs its options in response to the ministry’s actions. Despite the pressure, the club maintains that it has nothing to hide.
The source emphasized Al Ahly’s openness to lawful oversight and its belief that every sports institution has the right to understand the legal environment it operates in.
Meanwhile, the club has firmly denied claims that officials Saad Shalaby and the late Amery Farouk had any role in the recent amendments.
