Al Ahly are reportedly in talks to bring back Akram Tawfik from Al Shamal ahead of next season, as the Egyptian giants look to reinforce their midfield following the departure of Malian international Aliou Dieng.

According to a club source, discussions between Al Ahly and Tawfik are ongoing, with the Red Devils closely monitoring the player’s contractual situation as they explore the possibility of re-signing him.

The source indicated that Tawfik has struggled to settle in the Qatari league and is open to a return to Cairo, adding that the player is also disappointed by his absence from Egypt’s national team plans.

However, Tawfik’s potential return is not expected to be the club’s only move in midfield. Al Ahly are also reportedly targeting a foreign signing to fill the void left by Dieng, who has agreed a move to Spanish side Valencia following recent negotiations, bringing an end to his six-year spell at the club since joining in 2019.

Tawfik’s versatility, capable of playing both in midfield and at right-back, is seen as a key factor in Al Ahly’s interest. His arrival could also influence squad decisions, with the future of Ahmed Eid now uncertain.

The club is considering sending Eid out on loan despite having signed him on a long-term deal during the last winter transfer window from Al Masry.

Al Ahly’s recruitment strategy reflects a broader effort to rebuild their midfield while maintaining balance and depth ahead of the new campaign.
