Al Ahly’s football management voiced disbelief over whispers of a fight between Rami Rabia and Imam Ashour during Tuesday’s clash with Sudan’s Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg.
The Egyptian giants were quick to downplay the drama after a video surfaced showing the two players locked in a fiery exchange on the pitch.
A club insider, speaking exclusively to Kooora, brushed off the speculation.
“The matter was not as some people imagined, and anyone who played football, even in the streets, realizes that quarrels occur on the field, as long as they don’t go off-topic,” he said.
“There was a quarrel between the two players over a certain ball on the field. Imam Ashour was supposed to return to cover the game, but Rabia told him that he is one of the team leaders and that’s it.
“We went into the locker room and nothing happened. Kohler gave a lecture yesterday and the two players trained together in the gym. There was no quarrel because there was no problem to begin with.”
The insider emphasized that it was just a fleeting flare-up, nothing more, and urged fans not to exaggerate. “There are those who have been lurking around Al Ahly recently and trying to distract the players from their focus,” he warned.
