Al Ahly considering signing Cape Verde star Jordan Mendes to replace Aliou Dieng
Egyptian giants Al Ahly are reportedly considering a move for Jordan Mendes, who currently features for Rodez AF in France’s second division, as they look to fill the void left by Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng.
Dieng is expected to depart the club at the end of the season after agreeing terms with Spanish side Valencia, leaving Al Ahly searching for reinforcements in midfield.
According to reports, Mendes has emerged as the leading candidate to step into Dieng’s role. However, the club is still assessing the player, whose name was recently proposed as part of Al Ahly’s shortlist for the upcoming transfer window.
The same source indicated that the Cairo-based club is expected to make a final decision within the next 15 days, as several options and proposals are currently under review by the management.
Mendes, 22, represents Cape Verde at international level and has made 28 appearances across all competitions this season. While he has yet to score, he has contributed two assists for his side.
Al Ahly are understood to be keen on resolving the situation promptly, rather than waiting until the end of the season, given that Dieng’s departure has already created a gap in the squad.
