Al Ahly confirm Mohamed Abdallah injury news ahead of Spain training camp
Mohamed Abdallah has suffered a minor ankle injury but is expected to travel with Al Ahly for their training camp in Spain, while Emam Ashour is also set to join the squad despite missing the club’s two friendly matches on Wednesday.
Abdallah picked up the knock during Al Ahly’s 2-0 friendly victory over Petrol Asyut. The 5 August game was one of two matches played by the Egyptian club on the same day, with the second ending in a 6-2 win against Nogoom.
The injury is understood to be a simple ankle bruise and is not expected to prevent the forward from joining Al Ahly’s travelling party for their overseas preparations.
Abdallah scored one of Al Ahly’s goals against Petrol Asyut, with Samir Mohamed adding the other. In the later fixture against Nogoom, Mohamed Sherif, Hussein El Shahat, Zizo, Sofiane Bendjeng, Karim Fouad and Ahmed Khaled Kabaka were on the scoresheet.
Ashour did not feature in either friendly and has not taken part in full team training since returning from the World Cup. However, he has completed rehabilitation work during that period and his absence from the matches will not stop him from travelling to Spain.
Al Ahly are scheduled to leave for Spain on Thursday, 6 August, where they will conduct an overseas training camp as they prepare for the new season.
The club will play Badalona, who compete in the fifth tier of Spanish football, in Barcelona on 12 August. That match will form part of Al Ahly’s build-up before they return to Egypt following a meeting with Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August.
The Egyptian Premier League is due to begin on 21 August. Al Ahly are scheduled to start their campaign on 23 August against Eastern Company Enppi.
The two friendlies against Petrol Asyut and Nogoom provided Al Ahly with an opportunity to test their squad ahead of the Spanish camp, with Abdallah’s injury the main concern to emerge from the first match. The club’s assessment indicates that the problem is not serious, and the player remains on course to travel.
Ashour’s planned involvement in the Spain trip is also significant after his extended period away from collective training. Although he was not selected for either of Wednesday’s games, his rehabilitation programme has allowed him to remain available for the next stage of Al Ahly’s preparations.
The club’s schedule in Spain will include both domestic opposition and the high-profile fixture against Barcelona, before attention turns to the start of the Egyptian Premier League later in August.
