Al Ahly have officially announced the signing of defender Amr El Gazar from National Bank of Egypt, strengthening their backline with a long-term addition.
The 26-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract and has been registered in both the domestic and CAF Champions League squads.
The deal includes a cash payment of 60 million Egyptian pounds, along with the loan of midfielder Ahmed Reda to National Bank until the end of the season. El Gazar, a graduate of Ismaily’s youth system, previously played for second-tier sides Al Nasr and Al Obour before moving to Ghazl El Mahalla in the summer of 2023 and then joining National Bank in 2025.
El Gazar becomes Al Ahly’s third winter signing after goalkeeper Hamza Alaa and striker Marwan Othman from Ceramica Cleopatra, as the club reshapes its squad mid-season.
Departures have also been significant, with Omar Kamal and Mohamed Abdallah loaned to Ceramica Cleopatra, Ahmed Reda to National Bank, while Mohamed Magdy Afsha joined Al Ittihad Alexandria, Mostafa El Ash moved to Al Masry, and the contract of young defender Abdelrahman Roshdan was terminated.
A source at Al Ahly told Kooora that El Gazar will not feature in Friday’s CAF Champions League clash against Young Africans. Instead, the plan is for him to be available for his potential debut on Tuesday against Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League.
