Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro could not hide his frustration after his side wasted a host of chances in their 0-0 draw with Ghazl El Mahalla on Monday evening.
The result left the defending champions with just one win from three league matches this season.
“We were the more dangerous and dominant side throughout the match. We missed seven clear goals in front of El Mahalla’s goal, and we tried to secure victory until the final moments,” Riveiro said after the game.
“Al-Ahly plays attacking football, always taking risks and constantly attacking, regardless of the result of the match or the name of the opponent.”
Riveiro pointed to wasted opportunities, with Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet hitting the post and Ashraf Dari denied by the crossbar, calling it pure bad luck.
Meanwhile, El Mahalla coach Alaa Abdel Aal praised his players for holding firm, saying a draw against Al Ahly felt like victory. Goalkeeper Amer Mohamed Amer, who was named Man of the Match, celebrated his fourth clean sheet of the campaign.
