Al Ahly is closely monitoring Zamalek’s stance on appointing foreign referees for their highly anticipated showdown next Tuesday in the decisive round of the Egyptian Premier League.
A source within Al Ahly revealed to Kooora on Thursday that as the designated home team, Zamalek holds the responsibility of initiating the request for an international officiating crew. The first-round fixture had taken place at Al Ahly’s stadium, making it customary for Zamalek to act first in this regard.
The source added that Al Ahly remains prepared to formally request foreign referees if Zamalek chooses not to take action.
“Zamalek often raises concerns over local refereeing and claims unfair treatment, which makes it puzzling why they have yet to push for foreign officials this time,” the source remarked.
With the league title race heating up, Al Ahly sits in second place with 39 points, trailing Pyramids by three. Zamalek, currently in third with 32 points, will be aiming to close the gap in this high-stakes encounter.
