Officials at Al Ahly have opted against organizing an external training camp during the Egyptian Premier League’s break to accommodate the Egyptian national team’s involvement in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in January.
As reported by “Al Youm Al Sabea,” the management of Al Ahly reevaluated the idea of hosting an overseas training camp for the team during the league hiatus.
This decision stems from the notable absence of a significant number of key players and foreign assets who will be engaged in the Africa Cup of Nations starting from January 13.
There is also the prospect of a training camp for the Olympic national team.
The site further expounds that the Al Ahly management has reached an agreement with Swiss coach Marcel Koller to conduct daily training sessions during the league break.
Additionally, several friendly matches are slated to take place to prepare substitutes and recovering players.
This comes in the aftermath of the team’s withdrawal from participation in the League Cup.
Al Ahly recently secured their fourteenth Egyptian Super Cup title with a decisive 4-2 victory over Future.
The club’s decision to forgo an international training camp underscores a strategic focus on individual player preparation and development, aligning with the broader goal of maintaining squad readiness during the league hiatus.
