Former Tunisia international Tarak Dhiab has hailed the Al-Ahli’s victory in the AFC Champions League Elite final as a historic moment in its history.
Al-Ahli defeated Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale 2-0 in Jeddah on Saturday night to win their first-ever Asian crown.
Brazilian winger Galeno opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a powerful strike from outside the box.
Midfielder Franck Kessie doubled the lead seven minutes later, heading in a cross from Roberto Firmino. Firmino’s contributions were pivotal, providing assists for both goals.
Posting a video on his X account, the Al-Ahli legend said: “A historic night in Al-Ahli’s journey, winning the AFC Champions League Elite after delivering a remarkable performance throughout the competition.”
He added: “From the beginning, it was clear Al-Ahli were among the top contenders for the title. The final against Kawasaki, especially the first half, showed their superiority.”
Dhiab also reserved special praise for Al-Ahli fans.
“The supporters have endured a lot, including relegation two seasons ago. Despite the setbacks, they continued to show up in their thousands and back their team. This win is for them,” he said.
“It’s important the team continues at this level. There’s great harmony in the squad. The players and technical staff had a fantastic season, and we look forward to more success, God willing.”
