Akram Tawfiq honors Al Ahly legacy with special shirt number in Al Shamal move

Akram Tawfiq has officially joined Qatari side Al Shamal SC, signing a contract that runs until 2028.

The Egyptian midfielder was unveiled at a press conference on Saturday, where he spoke about his new chapter and the deeper meaning behind his shirt number choice.

Tawfiq will wear the number 72 at Al Shamal, a tribute to the 72 Al Ahly fans who tragically lost their lives in the Port Said Stadium disaster. “The choice of number 72 in recognition of the martyrs of the Ahly Club,” he said, honoring the memory of his former club’s loyal supporters.

He credited Al Shamal’s vision and ambition as key reasons for the move and expressed his gratitude to Al Ahly fans for their unwavering support. “I hope to be at the good expectations of the Ahly fans, and honor my country Egypt,” he added.

Club official Meshaal Al-Ali praised the effort behind the deal, stating, “The player Baghdad with success, played a major role in the completion of the deal of Akram Tawfiq.”
