Akor Adams ready to make history with Sevilla at Camp Nou
Akor Adams heads to Camp Nou carrying Sevilla’s attacking hopes and a genuine belief that records are there to be broken.
The Nigerian striker, his team’s top scorer and one of La Liga’s form players, has enjoyed a huge leap this season: debuting with Nigeria’s Super Eagles, shining at the Africa Cup of Nations and growing into a leader in Seville’s frontline.
“I feel good physically and mentally. We’re doing well in the locker room and my family is doing well, so I’m doing well too,” he said, adding that public backing from sporting director Antonio Cordón gives him extra motivation rather than pressure. Adams credits coach Matias Almeyda and his staff for helping him evolve beyond just goals, improving his link-up play and decision-making.
He also spoke warmly about club legend Frédéric Kanouté, whose story he studied before signing, calling him a great reference for African players at Sevilla. Reflecting on AFCON, Adams described playing every game as a vital step in his career, even without lifting the trophy.
Looking ahead to facing unbeaten-at-home Barcelona, he embraces the challenge of Sevilla’s 23-year winless run there: “The great thing about football is that you have the opportunity to make history in every match.” With ten league games to follow, Adams insists he believes fully in the team and has a simple, ambitious dream: to reach his best level and win with Sevilla.
