Ajax must decide whether to accept a €60m offer for Belgium winger Mika Godts, with the player reportedly having agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain.

Paris Saint-Germain are working to complete the transfer this summer as they look to strengthen their squad and maintain their position at the top of European football. The French club have won the Champions League twice in succession and are seeking further additions to their attack.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Godts has negotiated the terms of a possible move to Paris Saint-Germain and reached an agreement with the club. The remaining obstacle is Ajax’s approval of the transfer.

Ajax are making every effort to keep the winger in Amsterdam, but the Dutch club recognise that their position would become difficult to defend if Paris Saint-Germain meet a €60m valuation. That figure has been identified as the point at which Ajax would be unable to prevent the player from leaving.

Jordi Cruyff, Ajax’s sporting director, said on Saturday that the club wanted Godts to remain for another season because they “need him”. However, local media reported on Sunday that the player had completed an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.

Mundo Deportivo suggested that the situation now strongly favours a transfer, writing: “In other words, Godts wants to leave. And when a player wants to leave, it is difficult to stop him.”

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf also reported that Ajax would probably agree to the sale because €60m represents a substantial fee for the club.

If Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain reach an agreement, Godts is expected to sign a contract running until the middle of 2031 or 2032. The proposed deal would see him move to the Parc des Princes.

The player’s representative, Niels de Jong, offered a brief comment to De Telegraaf when asked about the negotiations, saying: “We will find a solution.”

Godts has therefore become the focus of an increasingly urgent decision for Ajax. The club publicly wants to retain a player it considers important, while the reported agreement between the Belgian and Paris Saint-Germain indicates that the winger is prepared to take the next step in his career.

For Paris Saint-Germain, the next move will depend on whether they are willing to meet Ajax’s financial demand. If they do, the Dutch club’s attempts to keep Godts are likely to be severely tested, with the €60m figure potentially determining whether the transfer is completed during the current summer window.
