Issa Soumaré, the midfielder for AJ Auxerre, has been handed a one-match suspension by the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) following his red card in a recent match against Quevilly-Rouen Métropole.
The decision was announced by the French Professional Football League (LFP) on Wednesday, April 17, regarding incidents from the 32nd day of Ligue 2.
Soumaré, a Senegalese international, received a straight red card in stoppage time during the encounter against Quevilly-Rouen Métropole, which ended in a 4-3 victory for AJ Auxerre.
While Soumaré’s red card was initially reviewed as a yellow card offense by the disciplinary committee, they opted to uphold the one-match suspension.
The sanction is set to take effect from Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 12:00 a.m., as confirmed by the LFP.
AJ Auxerre, currently leading the Ligue 2 standings, will be without the services of Issa Soumaré for their upcoming fixture against Laval during the 34th day of Ligue 2.
The club’s promotion hopes to Ligue 1 remain strong as they continue their pursuit of success in the league.
Soumaré, who has featured in 12 matches in the French Ligue 2 this season, with three starts, faces a setback with this suspension. However, AJ Auxerre will look to maintain their momentum in his absence as they aim to secure their position at the top of the table.
The disciplinary action against Soumaré underscores the LFP’s commitment to upholding fair play and ethical standards in football competitions, ensuring that rules and regulations are applied consistently across all matches in Ligue 2.
