Egyptian media figure Ahmed Shobier has disclosed when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will issue its final ruling in the dispute over last season’s Egyptian Premier League title between Al Ahly and Pyramids.
Speaking on his TV show, Shobier explained that CAS has decided not to hold any new hearings in the case and will instead rely solely on the written documents and evidence already submitted by both clubs.
According to Shobier, the court will deliver its verdict on 5 March, bringing an end to months of legal wrangling around how the championship was settled. Pyramids had lodged an appeal against the decision not to deduct three points from Al Ahly after the club refused to play the league Cairo derby against Zamalek due to the appointment of an Egyptian, rather than foreign, refereeing crew.
The competitions committee initially ruled Al Ahly losers by forfeit and ordered a three‑point deduction, but the Professional Clubs Association later cancelled the points penalty and only confirmed a 3–0 win for Zamalek on paper.
This ruling proved decisive, as Al Ahly went on to win the league by a two‑point margin over Pyramids. If CAS sides with Pyramids and reinstates the points deduction, Pyramids would be crowned champions by a single point; if the appeal is rejected, Al Ahly’s title will be fully confirmed under the existing standings.
Shobier noted that both clubs are confident in their legal position and optimistic about the outcome, making 5 March a crucial date for Egyptian football.
